please help, my e4od just quit!

several weeks ago, my e4od in an 89 f350 diesel dually took spells gushing fluid out the torque converter area. a local guy took the tranny out, installed a seal and pump gaskets, reinstalled the tranny, and pronounced everything great. it lasted just over 100 miles. it was going down the interstate in od when i exited. as it started to downshift it went into like "neutral" wouldn't go in forward or reverse. the fluid showed full. now this guy that worked on it says it probably needs a pump or converter or both. is there something he could have done when he had it apart? it didn't leak any fluid this time. i can't help but feel that i am about to be taken to the cleaners over this deal. it won't take many tow charges and paying for taking it out and putting back in before i could have paid for a reman! what could cause it to just quit like that.
what would you do???????/
thanks for all responses.

LAST EDITED ON 20-Feb-01 AT 10:44 AM (EST)[p]i would get a c-6 installed, instead of rebuilding that one. In my opinion, i think that the c-6 is stronger than the E40D, because the E40D is computer controlled and the C-6 isn't.
