Been some time since I was back here. I have a new issue, when I got the truck the front tank was missing a fuel cap so I knew it was just destroyed. It was, full of rust and had a few pinholes. Could it be saved? Slight chance. So I dropped my rear tank yesterday and found out again how much I love pb penetrating spray, saved my life. I drop the tank and clean it out, it wasnt too bad so I put quite a bit of silica sand and half a gallon of acetone. Swish it around alot and it was all nice and clean inside. Also replaced the rear fuel pump, just the pump and not the whole assembly, saved about 40 bucks.
Ok, now this is where a flood of different emotions come in, I remeber reading that the tank selector valve had a filter in it, and something about it being the same as a bronco 2. I get the filter and it does not fit on the pick up shaft or whatever that thing is. When I first got the truck I got a new fuel filter for it, but apparently, I don't have one... Unless its behind the block I do NOT have a fuel filter... Am I missin somethin?
I just blew up your avitar to see that you have a 5.0. You might have an in-line cannister filter if there is not even an attachment point at the tank selector valve.
Yea, sorry, its a 302. My gas gauge doesn't work so I know I need to get a new assembly. I was trying to figure out how far I can go on a full tank, 191 miles, I put about 2 gallons back in it and off I went. About 4 miles later, on a slight hill, it started bucking and missing. I pulled off to the side of the road with my hazards on, I idled up the hill and after that ran fine. I thought I didn't have enough gas in the tank to take any slopes. About a mile later it happened again but on a downhill slope. It died and I couldn't get it started again. Got a buddy to come and get me, 2 more gallons of gas in it. Got it started and headed home. When I got home it wouldn't start anymore. I knew the HPP was working, bad spot for a fuel pump, so I tested the in tank pump and it didn't do anything. I found just the pump at a local Checker for 45 bucks and that worked great!
Like I said in my first post, I remeber reading somewhere that the tank selector valve has a filter and I think it was the same one as a bronco 2. I have the inline filter somewhere around here, and there are no female fuel ports or whatever their called. If I remeber right it goes before the HPP which makes sence. Where else could the filter be located? It's not on the frame rail. Could it be behind the block somewhere?
There is a fuel filter in the tank selector valve, you need to unscrew the bottom off, and the filter is inside. I changed the one in my truck last fall, be careful when you screw the cap on, and make sure it seals good.
Mine doesn't have one. I have a cartage filter but it doesn't fit at all, the hole in the top of it is too large and that post thing doesn't seal what so ever. Since I only have one tank right now I would love to bypass the selector valve. I don't think I'll ever get the side tank.
