I have a 79 F-150 4x4 with a C6 that slips when cold and I'm going up a steep incline. Any ideas? One thing is that the fluid level is overfull but I don't know if that would affect it. Any ideas from slushbox junkies? thanks
Overfilling the transmission can cause high backpressure on the front pump if the vent line or cap is plugged. This may cause it to be sluggish when it's cold. Drain some of the fluid and see if it changes. You can estimate how much excess fluid is in it and drain that much from the plug on the converter. It's easier and cleaner than loosening the pan. What gear is the transmission in when it slips?
It's in 1st gear when it slips. Thanks for the tip about draining the converter, I'll give it a try. What's the best way to test and fix a plugged vent line or cap? Thanks

You can unscrew it from the housing an clean it with solvent. If it is the type that wont unscrew, you'll have to use a small wire brush to clean it until you can rattle it around. It should be clear then. Don't forget to crank the truck and let it warm up before you check the fluid level after draining fluid from the converter. You will not see a decrease until you do that.
