Highway misfire
Gotta a very strange phenomenon. Sometimes, very rare...when speeding down the highway in my '78 f-100 with 302 (really pushing down on the gas on no particular incline or decline...just going 80-90 mph), the engine all of the sudden misfires with loud knocks and loses power (seems like I am running of some of the cylinders). I pull over to the side and turn the engine off. Start it right up and it is still behaving like that. Then something tells me to change the spark plugs. Every time I do that, the truck starts right up properly. Strange thing is that the sparkplugs all seem to be perfect tan. This happened maybe four times in past 14 months.
Way back I had a burned headgasket between two cylinders and this was a similar behavior when going uphill at highway speeds. This was fixed. Could a headgasket selectively let through? Or is this an electrical problem?
