my question is: the kickdown function is engaged on this transmission when; the lever is from side view all the way to the right which is the up position. Or is it engaged when from side view the lever is all the way to the left which is level with the shift lingage. thanks for all replies and im newbie to ford eth.

i appricate your replie i do understand the common nature of the kickdown as if it was hooked up but mine isnt in which i should had made that abvoius i have no cable or kickdown rod connected im just having a upshift problem tranny goes in low-2-d manually but doesnt shift automatically thanks again
You can feel resistance in the lever when it is pushed in one direction and none in the other.
Resistance means throttle pressure is being applied, which results in a higher shift point and forced kick down.
If it doesn't shift you could have either vacuum or governor problems.
make sure there is good vacuum at the modulator.
If there is good vacuum and the modulator is working then the governor is the next culprit.
thanks stewart very interesting facts that i wouldnt have thought of but i narrowed it down the vavle boby was cloged or stuck whatever term you would like to use so i ran lucas tranny fix thru the systems ran the tranny manually thru the gears for about 30min or so and tryied it in drive and it shifted out smooth
