I have a 92 F150 4x4 that I just replaced front axleshaft universals in. I put everything back together and the drivers side wheel sounded like it was grinding badly when driven. I took the assembly apart again and put it all back together and the problem stopped for about a week, but then started all over again. What could be causing this?
Wheel bearings loose or wheel bearings bad? Did you repack them with new grease?
Locking hub bad? Does the sound change with hubs locked. Does the sound change if in four wheel drive?
Was curious, what did you use to remove the spindle on your Dana 44? I'm curious since I wasn't able to pry mine off after 17 years.. It was a real tear-jerker not being to change the U-joints out.
I assume that when you said, "..I just replaced front axleshaft universals.." you meant you completely dissassembled the hub and/or rotor and then removed the spindle to get to the u-joints.
I see everyone pointing to a "Spindle puller" on here, while other have managed to simply tap and/or heat and/or use a 2x4 and knock it out of the housing.. I wasn't able to, but I didn't have a spindle puller either.
If you didn't disassemble the hub and the spindle, simply disregard what I asked.
Sorry about the long lapse in replying lotta stuff going on haha. I found the source of the noise and it turns out I did nothing wrong it was a broken spring in the right rear brake. I just used a hammer and chisel to get the spindle off mine was tough too a hit the chisel with a 3 pound hammer for about ten minutes before it finally broke loose
