Headliner Question

I'm almost finished with my '77 F250 SC Resto project. I'm having trouble with the headliner. It's the standard Cardboard with vinyl. The vinyl was loose (Completely off the cardboard). I used some spray contact cement to glue the vinyl back on to the cardboard. This contact cement is the same stuff I used to glue the insulation to the roof and inside the side panels. It's strong stuff. BUT...when I installed the headliner in the truck, and let it sit outside, the heat caused the glue to melt and become "Gooey". The vinyl came loose from the cardboard, and fell down.
I tried regluing it again with the spray glue. It held until the truck got hot.

My question is...What glue would work to hold the vinyl headliner on to the cardboard backing?

If I can't find something that will hold, I'll just take the vinyl out and leave the cardboard. It just looks like crap without the vinyl on it. I'd like to use it if I can.

Thanks...

I had the same problem with my 77 liner, so I made sure both parts (vinyl and cardboard) were clean, and used 3-M spray, held for a bit.

Then again with "industrial strength" haha, held for a even shorter time. Finally asked a interior shop, they would not tell me or sale me any of what ever they used, but said it was a heat resistant type adheisve?

Maybe you will have better luck than me, or someone else on here knows what to use.

Yeah, those "Pro" shops don't care much for us do-it-yourself'ers..
I'd tear the liner out before I gave some jerk like that a dime of my money.
If "They" can get glue that works, then so can I...I just need to do some research and figure out exactly what it's called.

SOMEBODY here has surely figured out what works.

Try giving Eastwood a call. They should have something that'll work and they are usually really nice to deal with.
