I got my tranny out of the 69 truck I have that had 390/4sp. Indeed as I thought after I got the layer of guck off the top, it's a T18. I wasn't graceful about getting the tranny out of the bellhouseing and it was partially separated and binding for a bit till I got help to separated the tranny and lowered it to the ground. Now looking at the shaft that comes out of the front of the tranny, that I think the throwout bearing rides on, I see a marr. I'm not sure of the nomenclature of the parts so I'll try to describe. There is the nub that goes into the pilot bushing, then it's splined. Sleaved around that is the shiny smooth part that I'm concerned about. Is this wear from the clutchfork/throwout bearing? Did I marr it (it looks more like wear than a gouge). Is this a problem I should do something about? If so what?
you should replace this part and the bearing behind it while your at it. if it has a gasket, get this also.
there may be an upgrade part that is harder metal. i have seen this wear on other tranny's, and when i got new part, it was steel, not an alloy metal.
sorry, but i can't remember what part is called!
