my 98 e-150 appears to be getting ready to excrete a r/s catalyst. has all the classic symptoms of exhaust restriction. as of 1/09 our politburo here in the peoples republik of ca requires certification of aftermarket cats. so far it seems ALL ford trucks are excluded except ranger/explorer. anyone got any leads on ca compliant cats for ford full size?
Make sure its the cats and not something else. Computerized engines can fool you into replacing the wrong part unless you have a failure code to guide you. How was the last smog check? Was it borderline or passed easily, HC,CO and NOX?
all the smog laws in the workers paradise changed on 1/09 to comform with the global warming hoax. we really need to open a season on greenies here. their population has exceeded the resources of their habitat. BTW, i've lived behind the tofu curtain for 53 years. i'm a former licensed smog tech. (and brake, and lamp). i went into electric sign contracting with my dad in the late 80's. got some new laws jumping off for my business in aug., new mandatory energy consevation standards. well, gotta go. i need to file the paperwork to make sure my permit for the toilet is ready by morning. LOL!
looks more like a cat every day. rattle in the l/s main cat. signs of restriction (vac. drop). probably wont store a code. i think the guts are loose. i've seen this happen once before. there are MANY things that either don't register on the computer or store something totally unrelated.
