turn signal switch

i need some help. i searched the forums but i didn't find what i was looking for. i just replaced the turn signal switch in my 1968 f250 and the wiring isn't matching up. the colors are almost all the same but i noticed right away that just because the colors matched it didn't mean that they went in the same spot. so i matched each wire position on my old switch to the new switch and plugged them in. so now the left signal works, the left comes on but does not blink (which is what it did before so the problem for that must be at the turn signal lamp) and when i step on the brakes both turn signal lights in the dash go on solid (no flashing) but there is no brake lights. can some one please help me with the wire configuration?

Is the switch you bought genuine Ford...or something else?

Did it come in a Ford box with this part number marked on it, or wrapped in plastic?

C9TZ13341C .. Turn Signal Switch / Obsolete (as of three months ago).

The genuine switch has a paper tag looped over and glued to the wires that is marked: C5TA-13341-B or C9TA-13341-A.

Fits: 1965/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD / 1967/68 F100/350 / 1969 F100/350 before serial number G30,001.

It could be mis-boxed...which while not common, is not rare either. It does happen.

What is the ID number on that tag?

I had the same problem at one time. What I did was find my main power wire(usually red) and main ground(usually black) and hooked them up and put power to one wire at a time to see what lit up and found the wire from the switch that would lit it when in the correct position. It took a while but I had no other way.

i think i may have to just take it into the shop. i looked at the old t/s wires and i looked at the pictures that i took before i even started taking anything apart and matched them up to the new t/s wires. so i know what wires go to what plug and its still not working right so there is something wrong that is beyond hwat i should be trying to fix. i don't want to make anything worse. the switch may be the wrong one but it looks just like my old one and fits perfectly... so i don't know whats wrong. i need someone who is more familiar with this kind of thing working on it.
