I converted the Efi 302 in my truck to a 351 with an edlebrcok 1405 carb. It has an AOD tranny. I'm using the locar kickdown cable kit, which is made for this tranny and carb combo. I had a mechanic install a new jasper tranny in it, and it shifts out of first at over 30 MPH. He said the locar cable was junk, and needed a new one, which I paid for, he installed, and it did not help. Tranny now has a burned band and he says that an AOD tranny will never work with my carb. Bit of a problem you see.
Now I need to know it anyone on here is running an AOD with any aftermarket carb, specifically edlebrock. I remember a post on one of the boards some time back, where someone had an identical setup to mine, but don't remember where it was.
Basically if jasper won't replace the unit (because of improper installation), and the dimwit mechanic won't either, I need to here from someone else, that this setup is possible before I call a lawyer.
I have a 83 150 with the edelbrock 1406 and edelbrock manifold. the truck has an automatic overdrive trans. I installed the lokar bracket and cable as recomended by edelbrock ( I wrote edelbrock and asked them because there web site said that the 1406 carb was not compatiable with the ford AOD trans.) Edelbrock said that with the lokar cable and brackets that it would work fine.It took alot of time, trail and error to get the adjustment right on the cable but I have it now I think. The guy I bought it from had put the carb. and manifold on but just used the original kick down rod. I don't know how long he ran it like that, so I am not sure if he did damage to the trans.. I have never had an AOD before so am not sure how they feel. I am going to have it checked out to make sure, but it seems to shift fine.
oh ! bye the way, if your truck won't shift out ot first until 30mph then the cable is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of adjustment. When I was adjusting mine I had the same thing happen when I went to far in the adjustment. But corrected it right away.Your machanic should have known that wasnt right.
Yeah, I figured this combination would work. If I don't hear from him by monday, saying I have a new tranny, I'll call a laywer. I don't think jasper is gonna cover it under the warranty, and he's basically told me he won't either. He's talking about rebuilding a c6 himself and putting it in there. Even if he pays for it all I'm still out the jasper warranty, as well as my overdrive. I wouldn't mind having the strength of a c6, but would rather have the overdrive. Probablly sell the truck soon anyway.
