I get this vibration in my transmission at 1500 RPM's. If I take the truck out of gear and idle it up to that RPM range, it won't make the vibration. Sometimes if I let the truck warm up a while it won't do it. What is this noise and how can I fix it??
I have a 1990 F250 351 4x4 e4OD. I don't have any vibrations in mine. I have 122,500 on it. I have heard the Oil filter can cause some noise untill its warmed up. I use Motorcraft from Wal-mart - $2.77ea. But I was going to tell you, I changed the trans filter a week ago and found a few of the nuts had came lose and unscrewed part way down on the screws - inside the trans. Its a good thing I pulled the pan. You may want to check yours and pull the pan. I just bought this truck 4 weeks ago.
More info: I also get a whirring sound from the tranny at high RPM's (>3500 usually) and is really evident if I'm pulling something in Low 1 at over 4000 RPM. Transmission has 134000, last serviced at 125000 or there about. When I serviced it I drained the pan and torque converter, and changed the filter. Someone had used the wrong fluid (they used Type F at 100000 up to 125000, and had only drained the pan then). I put Dexron III back in it.
Have a 95 f150 w/e4od. Had a similar problem which was traced to torque converter shudder. Replaced t.c. and installed shift kit and what I think was a larger line feed(pressure?)to the t.c. Anyway, works much better now. The problem was most noticable when shifting between gears at low r.p.m.
