I have a 02 f250 SD 4wd with 4speed trans, 150,000 miles. About 2 weeks ago the battery terminal went bad,(corroded) and truck would not start. I wiggled it til it made contact and started. I drove about 55 miles, and just before getting home (about 2 miles from home) I lost speedo and all gauges. Truck still ran so I got home, replaced battery (still had original in) and terminal. Truck started up, all gauges worked, drove like normal. Shortly after that the trans started acting up. When I put it in drive, it acts like it is in neutral. Gave it a little gas and it popped in gear and spun the tires. Now most of the time it hesitates like that. When I put it in 1 it engages, sometimes right away, sometimes after 5-10 seconds. all other gears work fine after it engages. I never have a problem in reverse. Fluid was changed last fall, level never falls, and no leaks. Anybody have any ideas?
Just an update on the trans issue, for what its worth. I posted a rather long update in the trans forum. If you read that update in total, you'll see why I'll be looking for another dealer to go to for service in the future. I'm sort a thinking the wrong fluid was put in when the previous fluid change was done by my mechanic son-in law. Since Ford fluid was put in at the dealer, its been running good. I just didn't like the attempted ripoff the service dept was trying to pull. By the way, Great web site. I've learned so much just visiting/lurking around.
