I need a little help from you gys if you can. I'm no mechanic or nothing so if it sounds like I don't know exactly what I am talking about then thats probaby the case. Ok, my brother has a 1997 Ford F150,and a freeze plug cracked , and he didn't know that at the time, so he took it to the shop they worked on it for a few weeks and found it abut 2 weeks after having, they messed with his motor somewhat. Well we put it back in then, when found out they had the timing messed up so we took it out, put all new timing chains and tensioners in it. Now it will run for about five minutes until it gets hot, then die and won't start until it cools off. Thanks for the help, and if you have any questions or suggestions please post them here, or email me at colts46201@yahoo.com
Did he pay them? cause if he did you need to take it back and make them fix it since they messed it up. And why would they mess with the timing if there was a coolant problem?
We didn't know the problem when we took it, and they didn't figure it out the sat until they took it apart. I'm starting to think that it wasn't a freeze plug, they just told him that because they got tired of messing with it, They had it almost a month, and my brother called them on a Thursday morning and said he was going to pick it up Saturday, finished or not, so I think it may have been a quick answer for them. And yes he did pay them, and they said no refunds.
You pulled the engine?!!!
You could have fixed the plug yourself.
If you reset the timing and all that, your a pretty good mechanic
My dad is a good mechanic, but we just cant figureout what the problem is. My brother has put alot of money into it buying everything new. Also we my brother buddy works at Firestone so we took it up there and they threw it on a few machines and found out it has no compression on the 4 driver side cylinders, but they could not figure out why. Does anyone know what would cause that? Thanks
If you have any questions and I don't reply, it's bacause I got to go to work in a few, but if you have any comments or questions just leave them here or send me an email at colts46201@yahoo.com and I will reply to them in the morning when I got off of work, or when I wakeup around noon. I will take all of the help and suggestions you can give, and once again, Thanks alot for the help.
Could be a lot of things: head gasket completely shot, valves, rings. Hell, the way it sounds, the mechanic yall took it to dont know what he's doin, he might have took all the daggum pistons out!
But on a serious note, sounds like you got a big problem brother, I hope you can get it figured out and get that ol ford back on the road! And if it was me, Id be at that mechanics shop jumpin on the counter till i got my money back. Of course im a hot headed Marine with a bad attitude.
He is right. If the timing was way off you might have bent valves a holed piston. All not good. I just replaced my engine, 4.2, if you need a good place for a new one.
Sorry I haven't replied for a few days, I've been busy with work and other things. Do any of you know what would make the cadiladic converter, sorry if I misspelled it, to get red hot. And if so would this make the truck have these problems and not run. Thanks.
Your screwed. Sorry so blunt. you have bad bad problems. You need a whole new engine. sounds like there is not much left to salvage for a back yard rebuild.
Is the truck worth saving, body and transmission wise? this will take some deep pockets.
Sorry for the news.
