After my 79 was t boned a few years ago i went to driving a newer car. needles to say i needed to get a ford truck again. so yesterday i got a "new" truck. a 1965 f100 2 wheel drive. it has a 300 (240?) and a 4 speed.
(bought it from a forum member called dragon22)
once i go through the brakes and get the carb tuned so that it don't blow black smoke at idle, and get some decent tires on it i'll be back to driving an old ford again.
anyone know of a good web resource for carter yf 1 barrel carbs (from a 1970 model) for rebuilding and tuning?
is it possible to change your screen name on this site (my truck is not brown or a 79 anymore!)
Nice truck and nice bump in background too. The YF is easy to rebuild, but there are a bunch of different kits for it. If it has an ID tag on it then you're in good shape. If not, the best resource I've found is the NAPA parts pro website where you can look at pictures of the actual gaskets in the kit and match yours up to the right set once you have it disassembled.
ya i wish it was mine! i hijacked that pic off one of his threads! If i can get it running, i'm going to get it road worthy tomorrow and paint it sunday. then inspection and paperwork!
Hello Brown79,
Glad to hear your heading back towards an Old Ford. My Sons and I just finished a Resto on a 65 Custom Cab Shortbed Styleside. When I got mine someone had shoe horned a holley that was not the right carb on my 240 Strait Six and it didn't run worth a darn. We found one of those Carter one Barrels, rebuilt it, and it runs like a sewing machine now. I just took the carb up to Napa and they took some numbers off it and got me the right kit to rebuild it for next to nothing, I think it was $19. When I took mine apart I found that the rubber on the accelerator pump was worn out and stuck causing the truck to act like it was flooded out all the time. Good luck with your rebuild.
