Are the signal lamps never on?
Are the Hazard Lamps never on?
Is one turn signal/Hazard lamp never on?
To test the turn switch circuit connect circuit 44 (LB) and 3 (LG/WH) move the switch to the turn left position, a good switch will indicate a closed circuit.
The flashers work fine. Not sure if you understand my problem. You know when you put the signal on and then make a turn. The signal will automatically go back to the neutral position. Well, my problem is that the signal will not go back. I have to manually put it back. How do I resolve that?
Sounds like the multi function switch to me. The return (cam?) is prob worn or broken. Had to do mine in my 97 about a year ago for same prob. Bring your wallet, the switch is pricey.
Yeah, it's pretty easy, just like Microsoft sezs Plug and Play is easy.
The hard part is paying for it. Y2KFordParts.com has it for 68.77
Sorry to say but gk50 has it right, its about as easy as pulling your own molar. You have to remove the steering wheel, BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AS IT WILL DISENGAGE THE AIR BAG. Thats the easy part. Further along the column, your going to have to **** with the connector to get it out and then further **** with plugging in the new switch without shorting one of the many wires or losing a fingertip. The switch itself is easy enough. Wish I would have taken some pics but didnt belong to the forum then. Once you get going its pretty self explanatory but tedious. I got my instruction from a haynes repair manual for the ranger.
Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder
1. Insert key turn to run
2. Pus the ignition switch lock cylinder release tab with a punch while pulling out the ignition switch lock cylinder
If equipped, remove the tilt wheel handle
Remover the upper and lower steering column shrouds
Remover the multi-function switch. 2 screws and electrical connectors
I finish with replacing the multi-function switch. Actually pretty easy....even with the wife talking my ear off. Usually a job like that with the 'ol lady near by would take twice the time. Needless to say, it only took fifteen minutes. I didn't have to worry about the ignition switch, I just disconnected the battery, took out the bottom three screws. I then unscrewed the tilt steering handle and took off the steering wheel shroud.
The hard part was just taking the wires off but all in all, easy job. Thanks for the advice guys.
glad to hear thats all it was, still grumbling here about pulling the steering wheel when i didnt have to. The manual specifically states to ref "steering wheel - R&R as the first item. I should send a letter.
