I have gotten hit a few times and something I started to use is PCTOOLS. They have Spyware doctor which will find and remove most problems, along with Registry Mechanic which fixes other problems.
I have been using these products now for two years and am real happy with, before I had Norton and also MCafee had issues. Good luck
