CD6 is stuck

The CD6 entertainment system in my truck is a POS! I had to have it replaced once (under warranty) and there was such a number of claims that it took two months to get the replacement in. Now it is stuck with #5 blinking and it wont eject, change, play, advance, nothing. I am going to have to remove it to get the 5 discs out and chunk it in the garbage. I'll replace it with a decent system from Best Buy or something. So how do I get the thing out? I looked and can't tell how the surrounding trim work is attached. I don't want to break anything so I would appreciate the input on how to go about getting the machine out.

Thanks for the help.

When you buy your replacement at the big box store make sure you get the adapter kit for fords. There should be removal instructions and the special tools that will assist you

Fortunately, I never had a problem with mine. I do have a replacement sitting in the wings though to add a few options (iPod, rear camera, bluetooth, nav). From what I recall on the instructions, you remove the dash tray (center top) just by lifting up. Then that will expose a couple of plastic tabs for the radio trim plate. It should lift right out from there. Then you will have a couple of screws holding the radio in. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I'll start there and see what my manual has in it when I get home. When I buy the replacement I will be looking for a system that has all the bells and whistles. As EBTDM says, the store always (almost always) has the right harness adapter so it plugs right into the truck's wiring harness. I recently replaced the system in my wife's F-350. I hate jacking with this crap, though. I would rather be spending money on my rebuilding project. I can't spend twice the money. And until I finish rebuilding my '84 I can't start on my Z car.

The Radio/hvac bezel has to come off to expose the (9/32")4-mounting screws for the radio.

Start at the bottom of the bezel and start pulling firmly/evenly as you work your way up.
I've noticed one of the easier ways of starting is the upper left or right region of the ashtray/cupholder opening.

A few things to note: The wiring harnesses for the HVAC, Traction asist and what ever-other option you may have there may have to be disconnected- including the Pssngr-side airbag lite.

Once you get it off, make sure the metal clips stay in the dash section for easier re-assembly. You may need pliers and or a small flat screwdriver to remove the clips from the backside of the bezel.

The CD that is stuck, would it be a non-factory recording? In other words, was it a blank that you recorded? Seems the non-factory CDs are thinner than the record lable CDs. The Ford CD changer seems to hang up with this type of CD. Working the Load and Eject buttons willfully, sometimes helps get it unjammed. But not always...

Good luck with the Big Box toy.

Take a look at Crutchfield.com if you are going to do it yourself. They can be the same price or better than bestbuy and they will give you the mounting instructions/parts most of the time for free. Wife got me a HD radio for my 98 at Fry's and she had to buy the mounting gear and the adapters which cost her an extra $50. I had been looking at the same radio and freaked her out when I was talking about it when I was ordering her little sister a radio for her car. Also they will support you during the install. I had a power issue installing her sister's radio and they walked me thru what I might have done wrong.

Also you can narrow your selection on the website to your vehicle which is nice.

If we have a sponsor that handles radios/nav/dvd players for trucks I didn't mean to step on any toes. Just mentioning my experience. I am going to be looking to redo my sound maybe end of the year or early next year so if there is/are sponsors I can use point them at me.

I had the same on mine. I stuck a debit card in there ever so carefully and lined it up with something it was touching just right. It pushed something into place and things started switching and ejected out the cd that it didn't like. It was a burned disk.
