What's up guys! I'm finally going to quit putting it off, I'm going to put new wheels and tires on my Creampuff F100. I've been set on the wheels for quite some time; I'm ordering Cragar white spokes:
I'm firm in the choice of wheels, but I'd really like to get some opinions on the size tires I should go for. It's a completely stock 2WD. I'm really just looking for something a little more "meaty" to replace those tiny scooter tires on there now. Something that fills up the wheel wells nicely, while still being completely driveable. If you all have some personal recommendations with pictures on a similar-stanced truck, that'd be great too.
I'm pretty set on 8" wide wheels (15x8, 5-1/2") but I'd like to hear some suggestions on width as well. Here's a side shot of the truck for reference:
I'm probably ordering the wheels this weekend, and I'll have a local shop put on the tires when those come in. Thanks guys; I'm sure you all will have some helpful input.
Get some 31x10.5x15's on there. I'm pretty sure your rims are the same size as mine. I changed out my old "scooter tires" for the Nokian Vativa M/T's on my 73 2wd, looks great. Totally changed the stance, clearance, and gave it a real agressive look. If you don't want a little vibration and gas mileage drop from the M/T's, go with an A/T, my friends 75 has BFG AT's and it still looks sharp. I just wanted a more rugged look than my ****ty Mesa AP tires that came from the PO.
255/70R15 sounds like a good size to me. 31s are too big for a stock height 2wd IMO. I always put different tires on the back than the front. I had more aggressive BF A/Ts out back for extra traction and BF Long Trails on the front. I also think the 2wds look nice with a larger tire on the back than the front but then you can't rotate all 4s right.
Here's a list of road tires I've been working on, I still haven't decided yet. They all should fit your new rims. Basically figure out if you want bigger or smaller tires, and use these numbers at the tire joint. Get the guy to show you the sizes and brands you are interested in, then pick your favorite. These prices are the lowest I could find on Tire Rack when I used the calculator to make the list. I was looking for low wide tires, but I changed my mind.
stock F100 tire: 235/75R15 Stock size is 28.88, 9.25 wide
Guys, thanks so much for all of the valued input. I realize this question gets asked a lot, but since each setup is unique I wanted to see what everyone had to say.
reynard101 - I never haul anything with it, I mainly use it to help people move or to romp around on the weekends. I use it to get my fix of setting off car alarms in parking garages.
Chad - I'm planning on saving the stock rims; otherwise I'd just let you have them. Wish I could help.
31's are a little big for my taste; right now I'm leaning toward 255/70's or 275/60's. I'd certainly love to see more pictures or get some more input. Thanks again guys.
I was told by an old Ford tech that 255-70-15's are the largest you should go on these 2wd trucks without changing the suspension geometry, I've been running them for 15 years with no problems.

No worries. Rather they be saved than thrown away!
Good choice. 31s will just look weird. It's just a much taller tire and barely wider. I know, I put on an old set of 31s I had lying about on my F150. They don't fill the wheel wells well.
