Down on power

I have owned my truck for 9 months now and i have always thought it was lacking in power but not having anything to compare it to i was not sure. its a 1997 ex. cab 4x4. 5.4 auto 127,000mi. today i was leaving a friends house and attempted to power brake it and smoke the tires. (childish i know) the 1st attempt it wouldn't spin the tires at all . the second attempt i hopped the brake a few times and it did break the wheels loose but not buy much. empty bed should have roasted the tires. i have built, driven and maintained my share of (real) race cars and trucks so i have smoked plenty of tires in my day. just not familiar with 5.4. is this normal?? where should i look??

I can't do it in my 02' Screw, the only way to break em loose is on gravel or accelerating and turning on a turn at the same time. never tried the brake torque method and will never.

The truck has limited slip and a method of traction control. The computer monitors the speed sensors and adjusts the transmission shift and power curve accordingly. If you want to burn tires, do the above, go on some gravel, or turn while doing it.
