Another Transmission Oil Question
I have a 2000 Ford F550, what is the consensus for oil types in a manual transmission, differential, Rear and Front end
Book calls for
Tranny and transfer case= Mercon ATF
Rear and Front end = 75w 90
I am thinking about
Tranny and transfer case = Schaeffers 5w 40
Rear and Front end = Schaeffer 75w 140
Edited diff for transfer case as I mispoke

When you say diff.What are you referring to?
If you mean differential, then 5/40 or ATF is absolutely wrong!
Since you mention "front and rear" w/ 75w+
Are you meaning transfer case instead of diff.?
(why not put in what is spec'd for?)

you are right I meant transfer case, As for what is spec'd the rear ends spec'd at 75w 90 I thought there was a TSB out that said to put the heavier weight in to 75w 140....as for the tranny and transfer case, the last time I had a manual was a 97 and the general consensus on that forum with the ZF5 was that the tranny ran better and shifted better with a 5w 40 motor oil in it than the mercon atf that was called for......I am going to put the atf in the tranny unless recomended otherwise
