Question Audio guru's please help.

I posted a thread in the excursion section about my kenwood KVT-512.

I bought it from crutchfield with the easy adaptor included. Soldered all the wires and connections. The radio worked for a coule of 4-6 weeks. then it would power on all the time.

I removed it and sent it to kenwood. They say no problems, and send it back.

I check all my connections and they are to what crutchfield and kenwood show. I take a volt meter and all is fine. Still no power.

Next I remove it again. and do a bench test and still nothing. I call Kenwood they say to ship it back again.

I get a call from kenwood today and they say it works fine.

I dont know who to believe or what to say at this point. All I have done is aske that kenwood supply me with a new harness for the kenwood radio.

Dont know what to do.

Powering itself on is either a problem with the radio or a wiring issue. It may take a few hours to days for the transistors to saturate to where it acts up. Ideally the to car harness and the kenwood's harness should be the same colors and get connected color to color.

These wires should be on the truck
| RADIO 12V|lt. green/purple |+ |radio |
| RADIO GROUND|black/lt. green |- |radio |
| RADIO SWITCH|pink |+ |radio |
| RADIO ILLUMINATE|lt blue/red (dimmer)|+ |radio |
| LF SPEAKER|org/lt grn-lt blu/wh| |radio |
| RF SPEAKER|wht/lt grn - grn/org| |radio |
| LR SPEAKER|gry/lt blu - tan/yel| |radio |
| RR SPEAKER|org/red - brn/pnk | |radio |

The important ones being Lt grn/pur to yellow, black to black and pink to yellow. The yellow wire should only have power when the key is on and during the accessory delay. You could have a problem with the Accy Delay relay, but you would see 12v on the pink wire when it doesn't disconnect.

I am trying not to cut or tap into the factory radio. When I bought the radio from crutchfield they supplied me with an easy adaptor that plugs into the vehicle harness. With that said all I had to do is match up the wires from the crutchfield harness to the kenwood harness that came with the radio.

I know I have the connections right, because I called them and had to ask a question. The question being, where do you connect the light green wire so the video would play as I drive. They wouldn't provide the answer, but you guys here did with just ground it.

I know its illegal to do, but screen name is job.

I am getting the radio back and a new kenwood harness. I will be replacing all of the fuses/relays heading to the radio and see if that is more of the problem.

The radio is back and Kenwood stated that there wasn't anything wrong with it. I did however get a new wiring harness from them.

After checking/replacing the fuses in the radio portion of the truck, I found that I was blowing a fuse somehow. I must have had to much stuff connected and it was blowing.

I gave up after all the frustrations with the radio, kids, and wife talking while trying to complete the job. I took it to a friend of mine.

He hooked me up with the wires and all the connections. I didnt want to ask him at first, because I know he is to busy with his tanning salon and food business. He came through though.

Now I am listening to the radio, watching video, and seeing whats behind me. I also had him install 6 new kenwood speakers. That was for the wifey bothering me.
