the tunes are for your truck not the tuner.... so a tune on the xcal2 is the sae as on the xcal3...
the key is the person writing the tune - and ensuring that the used tuner u get is NOT vin locked - i.e. if it is locked to a particular vehicle, it's only good for a paperweight...
but as far as the xcal2 - it's FINE !!!! it pushed my tank to 8.9 @ 75 in the 1/8th without trying too hard....
I am using one currently with Spartan tunes. As far as I know there isn't any difference in the tune itself.
My reasoning was that I am waiting to get a Phalanx and wanted something cheap to play with in the mean time. For that purpose it is perfect. Like mentioned above make sure it is not vin locked. You can only reset the vin 6 times on one of these and as they are used it's hard to be sure how many resets are left. .02
Well..... The main reason I am wanting a tuner is I will be needing a "code blocker" once I get the EGR delete done and CCV reroute. This tuner came off an 06 and I have an 06 but the guy who is selling sold the truck because he had "nothing but problems" and I am wondering about his tunes? He told me to come over and try it out and see if it works so I should be able to find out if it is locked or not before I buy. It is an older guy and he said he got it new and only had it on his 06. I have to make the up-grades in a few stages and thought I would do a new exhaust and pick up this tuner if it will work for the end result.... I do not have a SCT dealer here and no real way to get new tunes for the unit.
Who do you all use to do your programing and can they E-mail you the programs?
Thanks guys! I am totally new to the tuner world so I am greatful for the help!
