93 Aero-No electrical
Replaced starter the other day, it ran fine Sunday and earlier today.
Then I get a call this afternoon that the van won't start, he only hears a click from the starter relay.
OK I figure, I can see about jumping that.
I get there, test the battery, its showing 12.7-12.8v. Fine.
I try and start it though, and the electrical goes DEAD.
Cluster is gone. Overhead light out. Starter does not engage. Nothing.
The only thing I do notice is with the key in position 2 the upper and rear terminals on the starter relay are showing 12v instead of 0v like they would if the key were not in. So they are seeing power, but NOTHING is happening.
IS this a fusible link issue? What the hell else could it be?
Thanks
This happened to me once after doing some electrical work, and it was because I did not re-connect the battery cable properly. The post had corroded, and I did not clean it well enough before reconnecting the cable. The car took me to work the next day, but would not start that night, exhibiting the same symptoms you describe.
Using a screwdriver to short the starter solenoid was the only thing that got me going - otherwise I was looking at a hefty towing bill (nearest town was 300 miles away!)
Even though I had disconnected the battery when replacing the starter and it had started and run FINE after the new starter was in, it just decided to develop a bad connection on the positive terminal after a day!
It seemed dead solid on there, but of course after taking the damn thing off, cleaning off non existant corrosion, and popping it back on at a slightly different angle the interior lights came back on and the sucker started right back up.

I am just tored of working on everyone ELSES cars I guess.
Thanks!
