Need different location for trans temp sender

the sending unit that came with my sunpro temp gauge will not fit in the pressure test port on the transmission. it is too long. is there a different location or maybe some kind of adapter? i checked with autometer and their units pull different resistance ohms then the sunpro. i figure this is going to be the issue.

Can you not just get a brass NPT adapter of some sort? IS it the right size just too long?

yeah, it's the right thread size. just to long. you barely grab the first thread. i haven't researched much on finding an adapter yet.

Is the guage electric or mechanical or electric? I had the same problem with my original Stewart-Warner gauge. It was mechanical.... traded it for the electrical version and it was a perfect fit. How do you tell the diff??? Electrical has 2 wires, mechanical, no wires, but a bourbon tube to the temp bulb.
