Well I just picked up a 94 ex-cab ranger with a blown head gasket and so I am going to stick a Mustang 5.0 with GT40 heads in it. I have been picking up parts for it and almost have the old 3.0 V-6 out. I will post picks of it while I go if anyone else wants to do this conversion........Mike.
Well ok guys sorry for the long delay in keeping this post going but I have not had any time to work on my Ranger. Here is a couple of pics to show what I have done so far...Enjoy.
out with the old 3.0 V-6
old 3.0 & 5 speed
In with a 5.0 V-8
No firewall or a/c box modifications done and yes I am going to run the a/c. I am using L&L motor mounts made for the Ranger V-8 swap. I had to move the trans crossmember forward about 1.5" to fit the AOD trans. I am ordering the headers tonight that fit the 5.0 into the Ranger and I am going to start on making the 89 Mustang computer wiring harness fit this truck. I would love to put some kind of power adder on this truck as that would be a blast but this is going to be my work truck for a little while so maybe down the road on that.
Well I have picked up some more parts from the wrecking yard this week and here is what I got. I pulled all the front brakes and spindles from a 97 Ranger and I got a 8.8 3.73 gears w/31 spline axels and a limited slip from an Explorer. I paid 42 usd for all the front end parts and paid 75 usd for the rear axel. I went back to the wrecking yard yesterday only to find a Ranger with a 8.8 w/sway bar 3.55 gears and a limited slip in it so I picked it up for 33 usd. The 95-97 Rangers have bigger brake rotors and use twin piston calipers then the older ones. The rear end I got from the Explorer would need the leaf pads relocated to the top of it and shock mounts made for it so that is why I picked up the Ranger rear end as it is a direct bolt it. Here are a couple of pics of my new parts.
Ranger rear end
Ok I worked on the throttle cable and TV cable hook ups today and this is what I came up with. I used a 96 Explorer 90* elbow with a mustang T-body and the stock mustang throttle cable bracket. I turned the T-body upside down bolted it on and then drilled & tapped two holes into the Explorer 90* elbow and used a piece of angle iron bolted that to the 90* elbow and then bolted the throttle cable bracket to the angle iron. Problem solved!! Now my throttle cable is a stock mustang 5.0 and I will need to use the lokar TV cable set up. Here is a couple of pics to see how easy this was to do....Enjoy.
