Man am I tired of this engine. I love my Excursion and if they made a new one with a better diesel I'd buy in a second. After engine replacement 400 miles after the end of the warranty and what seems to be new injectors (1 or 2) every 30K since, the dealer tells me that #1,3, and 5 are bad again due to fuel pump pressue problems and they would suggest I change out all 6 that I didn't have replaced three months ago along with a cracked turbo intake. Another $4000+?
Short story...I can't trust any of the local dealers...when I get a diagnosis the next dealer tells me something else. I need a good diesel specialist in Denver or Colorado Springs that is reliable.
The Powerstroke Registery online list dealers and sevice centers that their readers recommend. Performance Plus in Colo Springs was one of the places listed. I don't know anything about them myself. High Pressure Oil Pumps going bad can cause injector problems. I got rid of my 05 because of many problems such as this that I did not want to deal with after the warranty expired. Great truck, bad engine in my opinion.
I got some feedback on them and it wasn't good. Maybe I should just move on and get rid of it too. Maybe I can find a 7.3 that doesn't have too many miles. It is becoming a second vehicle anyway.
A good friend of mine just bought a 2001 XLT crew cab 7.3L 4X4 with 54,000 miles on it. The previous owner only used it to tow his 5'er between Michigan and Florida and vacations. The tranny had been replaced with a Ford remanufactured unit at 45,000 miles and they installed the 6.0L tranny cooler while they did the tranny work. It's a sweet ride and he got it for under $18K. They are out there if you're patient and don't mind driving some to get it. That's what I probably should have done instead of getting the 06 F150 that I have.
