Dual front shock question

I have noticed at the wrecking yard some Bronco's and F150's 1978-79 have the dual front shock, in fornt of and behind the front coil spring. What is the advanage of dual shocks in the front and why do some bronco's and truck's have them and others do not?
Has anyone ever added the dual shock set up to a single shock set on a F150? It looks like one needs th front radius arm cap of both sides with the axle insulator or C axle bushing.. This raduis arm cap has the brackets for the front bottom shock mounts on both sides. Also one needs the track Bar bracket which on the driver side has the top shock mount. Also the pass. side bracket on the frame for the top shock mount. Does this sound possible, has anyone tried with success? Are the C bushing degrees the same on the bronco and F150? How does one tell ? Are the radius arm caps all the same on the Bronco and F150 and do the degree bushing vary on each vehicle, what determines the degree bushing to use?

The "Quad front shocks" were an option and included with the trailer tow packg, and I think the handeling package. They keep the front of the truck from bobbing up an down with a heavy trailer or payload.

All you need to convert is the right side radius rod cap with upper shock mount, and the lefi side shock mounts. Everything else is the same.

bolt size

Anybody know the wrench size of the 4 bolts on the radius arm caps and the front shock mount bolts?

I did that front and back to my F150 back in early '76 I believe. :)
I took them off in the early 90's and switched to Rancho 5000's.

The shock in front of the I-beam needs to have a longer stroke
than the original front shock or it'll limit the suspension travel.
I used a pair of used (broke-in) rear shocks. ;)

Lots of dirt road miles on my pickup! LOL :)

In some ways the singled-up Ranchos are better than the double
regular shocks and some ways not as good, better over all tho.
IMO.

3/4" for the shocks.
I don't know for the caps since mine's a 2wd. :)
No 4wd F150's in '75. ;)

Quad shocks were not standard with either of the Trailer Special packages.
