Truck is running and a few bugs have been worked out. Biggest problem now is no reverse. I know this is a 61-66 forum, but to be honest most of my help has come from you guys. I'll post a duplicate thread in transmission section just to see. Entire trans was torn down and a B&M transkit was installed with all new clutches, steels, bands, etc. Followed everything to the letter (so I thought). Any ideas where to begin. Was thinking possibly the clutch adjustment but loose or tight but I get the same results either way.
Fluid level is spot on. I can only drive in my yard but drive may be drive 2 for all I know, but when I drop down to drive 1 you can hear it down shift and I get high RPM. Ran through the haynes manuel and need to spray some starting fluid tomorrow to check for a vacuum leak.

when the valve body was taken down to put in the shift kit, the reverse check ball fell out and was not put back in! Just don't ask me how I know
Could have swore everything including the check ***** were back in their right place. Good new is the new deep pan is equipped with a drain hole, so fluid removal will be sooo much easier.
Didn't know they even made a deeper filter. Figured the deeper pan was just for added capacity. I'll make sure to check the anchors once the valve body is out. Thanks for the tips. Looked all over the shop and cannot find my rebuild kit manuel. I do remember one ball was discarded. Think this is the intermediate check ball. Anyone know which check ball this is? I do have a Haynes manuel, but it just shows where they all go and not what they are actually for.

Yes, If you have the deeper pan you should have a deeper filter. Just get one for a 4x4
What 4WD Ford F Series truck used a C4 transmission? None.
1973/77 Bronco's used the C4. The pan gasket is the same for all C4's, the pan and filter are Bronco only.
I thought the early bronco's had c-4's from around 66-77.
The illustration is out of the Truck Parts Manual. I should have said Truck/Bronco or an aftermarket screen, there were at least 3 different filters from 64-70 pretty sure one of them works
Update: I now have reverse! Pulled the valve body out today after work. Grabbed the instructions and pulled everything back apart. Biggest problem is the size of the check *****. Yes they were all in the right spots, but the kit included two different sizes for some reason and as always I figured bigger was better. Switched out to the smaller ones. I have reverse after I give it a little gas. I suspect it may just need to be broke in now and the band may need some adjustment. Thought it could be the 2500 flash stall converter, but it engages quickly in drive. Anyway thanks for the advice as always.
Just for arguments sake they included 3 trans filters. One of them was deeper than the others but did not fit my trans. Mine is the pinto style. I can never sell my truck. 79 frame and running gear, 66 body, 70 mustang motor, pinto C4, 73-77 steering column, 2009 digital guages, 65 mustang seats, you get the idea. Poor guy would never be able to buy parts without stealing whats in my brain.

Screw the modulator valve screw in, clockwise to increase pressure, this will most likely fix the delayed reverse engagement. (1/2 to 1 turn at a time).
