I could use some help figuring out what I've done to my 1990 B2. I was replacing the positive battery cable. It slipped out of my hand at the starter relay (the one that bolts onto the chassis, inside of the hood-passenger side ) and made contact with the other terminal on the relay. The starter kicked on, the battery cable got super hot and a small fire started at the relay. After I got the situation under control, I replaced the relay and everything was fine for a few days. Then I noticed the battery was draining yesterday. Then when I tried to start it today, it seemed like it didn't have enough juice in the battery to start- just kinda went rrrr, rrrr, rrrr without catching. When I turned the key off - it just kept trying to start - rrrr, rrrr, rrrrr....for a few minutes until the battery died. I put a fresh battery in and it has started and run just fine for the last 4 hours. Any ideas as to why this happened? My guess is something got fried when the fire happened and is now grounding out and making contact when it shouldn't. I just don't know all the parts involved and what to look for.
Take a test light, and test out the connections at your solenoid. Key on, on off. Obviously, you shouldn't have any power to the starter with the key off, so maybe your ignition switch is going south. Shoot some wires.
