not related but I got a hp laptop with vista and its great had it for over a month and not one problem. Thing is its a custom build and I did my research on vista. But if you buy vista now though HP is going to throw in a free windows 7 or what ever that new program is called when it comes out.
It has only been three months but I finally got around to dealing with the broken PC that this thread is about. All it took was one cold, rainy day.
So, stripped everything out of the machine, took everything off the motherboard and using my handy new reading glasses I was able to see that the video card was fried. I mean even to a neophyte like myself it was obvious that it was toast. Five of the six capacitors on it were spilling their guts. Twenty bucks for a used one at my new favorite computer store in Danvers and this bad old boy is up and running again. Almost new Vista machine is going back in the box!
I think it was Donjamer and Lead Head that called it here so now I owe you two another beer each.
I am two-for-two in recent repair projects. From the broken spark plug this past weekend to now this. Been a pretty good week so far....maybe my luck will continue a little later when the kids go to sleep.
UHHHHHH...Ray...better be careful about buying Lead Head a beer...he's not of age. Of course...you could buy him a root beer...and you could buy me the real beer for keeping your **** out of the brig!!!

Well I'll be damned....what I meant was I will buy him a beer as soon as he turns 21 and can prove it. Who knew a kid would know so much about computers.
but are you running from the mother board for your monitor? or do you have a graphics card that you run your monitor from??
i remember having problems with mine when i was running from my mother board... a new graphics card fixed the problems i was having... (but that was just the blank screen... it still had the lights on the key board and still beeped and everything...)
