I recently purchased a 64 F250 that I am restoring. I was planning on swapping out the motor and installing a 351W/ C6 combo to build up power. But a friend of mine now has me wondering.. I thought the motor was the stock 292 and T98 transmission. But the valve covers are not the 2 bolt ones.. The actually have five. The intake manifold has some letters stamped on the top that read C7TE9425-E) Any clues, or where else I can look to try and figure it out?
Thanks a lot for your help. Where/ what do I need to locate to find out what I may be working with? My original plan was to store the motor and transmission and replace them with a hopped up 351W/ C6. But if this motor can be built up and the transmission can handle it there is no point wasting extra money. Also any thoughts on the transmission or where to look for a number on that? Did many FE motors come with the single front engine mount?
You have some thinking to do. Last FE was installed in 76, last 351 in 96 and OD trannys are bolt up for it. The FE will make more torque but could cost more money to get there.
Poke a 14ga white house wire in the front spark plug hole, have a friend turn the engine over with a wrench and mark the wire with a Sharpie as it slides past. Measure the total length of the mark to get the stroke. That will help a lot in finding what you have.
FT engines in big trucks had the front mount that was used.
You have several possibilities. Defining a budget might be a great place to start.
