4 speed manual internal spring failure

i have an 84 f250 4x4. it has a borg warner 4 speed. the problem is that there is no longer any spring loaded pocket that you enter to shift to reverse. i have seen many trannys at auto wreckers the same way so i assume it's quite common. anybody ever fixed one of these situations themselves? how complicated is it? thanks.

4 speed manual internal spring failure

If you are still able to shift into R, then chances are the spring has broken or come out of place. Drop it and tear it apart, or just shift with care.
