I'm getting error code 0402 on my truck with only 60,000 miles on it. I found TSB 02M01 that says a Tube Mounted EGR Pressure sensor is the cause. There's been a couple times I remember the idle going goofy for just a brief moment.
Will Ford do this for free?
Thanks Ron. Is the DPFE the pressure sensor mentioned above? I replaced one on my daughters 97. That turned out to be the holes in the throttlebody were dirty, but hers had way more miles than mine.
I believe your terminology and mine are implying yes it's the same sensor. Your old one will have a -9J460- number on it. Also check the silicone tubes to the sensor, they last a long time but not forever.
Right again Ron, 9J459. Can I buy this at the parts store, or do I have to wait until tomorrow? Also, I thought emissions in California was 100,000 with no time limit? must have changed.
Going from memory 9J459 is the base number for the EGR vacuum regulator, 9J460 for the DPFE. So many captive Ford parts are now available through Motorcraft I don't know for sure what can be purchased at a parts store. I do however recommend Ford/Motorcraft brand for your replacements. When I was working as the warranty administrator at a Ford dealership I was in Minnesota, so I don't know if California has extended coverage for these base numbers or not. You could call Livermore Ford with your VIN, mileage and base number to get a firm answer as to coverage.
Right again Ron. I found the DPFE 9J460, and it was in a different location than my daughters. I'll get one tomorrow, and see if it solves the problem.
I got out my owners paperwork, and California emissions is 7 years, or 70,000 miles. Too bad for me, I took delivery 8 years ago last month.
