what about the crown vic??
it is 5 times more car than any of those 4. larger, roomier, more comfortable, larger trunk, and will get about the same fuel mileage.
I'd wait for the 2010 Taurus myself. Whole new version fully updated an dshould be a great car. The styling is much better IMO.
The 2010 Taurus will definately be a beast and IMO, worth waiting for.

The CV is definately the most duarable car that Ford has built in the last 15 years or more. It has adequate power, is reliable and is comfy. It's not ging to match the MPG's of the Focus, it will come close to the Fusion and the Taurus.
I would have to say, check out the 2010 Fusion, 2010 Taurus and a 2010 Grand Marquis as CV's are no longer available for the buying public.
Other great cars to consider: 2010 Hyundai Genesis and the Nissan Altema.
Yeah I would agree with monsta, the fusion is a great car that is pretty fun to drive, and it is what I would buy. The focus is also a great car, we have one with over 140,000 mi on it and its still as solid as the day we bought it, and the taurus and 500 are also great cars, but very boring and have poor resale value.
The OP asks a simple question and nobody can answer it. Is this how you three are in real life conversations as well?

I'm going to say the Fusion. It would be first to get my money before the Focus and the 500/Taurus twins.
Why do you ask?
Well, actually, I did answer it. Wait for the 2010 Taurus...it has been built since '05 like he asked. The new Taurus is a much improved car over the old ones and over the '09 Taurus (500 replacement). The Fusion is a great car and the 2010 with the 3.5 is a screamer from what I've read. I like the room of the Taurus though having three kids.
I had a (second-hand) CV about 10 years ago. I "think" it was an `87 (sorry, memory fails me exactly) and it had done time as a Virginia State-Trooper-mobile. I recall it being a GREAT vehicle at the time, and my point of reference may be blurred as it was 10 years ago, but I'm thinking I was getting "maybe" 18-20 MPG's on the highway (?) - and I suppose 14/15 around town, and I just associate the CV with weight/fuel consumption (and YEAH, some POW-ah too!) much more so than decent gas mileage - and decent MPG's is something I'm gonna need now.
I really think I had already made my decision before I asked here, but I was hoping for these opinions from you-all as well.
I'll likely buy used/"previously-owned" (haven't seen any "CPO" Fords out there?) - anything "new" (`09/`10) other than the Focus, is beyond the price-point I'm wanting to hold myself to (roughly $15,000 - max).
I like the Focus well-enough (especially the prices/MPG'S & the various "T.C.O.'s" I've seen on it), but I just don't think it's gonna be quite big-enough/comfortable-enough to suit my fat-@$$ed, tired old body.
I threw the (current Taurus) and (retired) Five Hundred in the mix pretty much just to see if I got any bites on `em - as they are reasonably well-priced used vehicles (I have no plan to re-sell whichever vehicle I decide-on).
I'm kinda' likin' most everything I'm reading and seein' on this Fusion ... ("most" everything). This will "probably" be my choice, though I am also "considering" the possibility of an Escape (Hybrid) if I can find an acceptable one (one with a "price is right" sign on it!).
Thanks again gents, and I would welcome any and all further comments/advice/suggestions/opinions!
Tim, I responded to the OP on this and was trying to say that your daughter had bought a Fusion and to talk to you for some first hand info but apparently it got lost in cyber-space...LOL
Not many considering CARMAX is in 26 states. I would personally NEVER recommend carmax to anyone. They are a "one price" dealer and in my opinion, they are over priced.

Good luck,

Funny how the world works. I, on the other hand, wouldn't hesitate to HIGHLY recommend this company to the vast majority of people.
Their "one-price" thing is the ONLY drawback I see, though my experience with them is that their prices "compete" before I've even walked through their doors. With other dealers, I've spent entire-whole DAYS just to get "down" to a competitive price level - or at best, save "a couple-a-hundred".
I have no need or desire to "sell" this company to anyone - I have no agenda here.
However my personal experience (three vehicles bought & sold through them), their BBB Accreditation and an "A+" rating, their history, and again, nothing but advantages, aside from - "the price is what it is" - thing, well, the only potential better deal in my humble opinion is "finding" a "private party" to purchase from - and the only real advantage there would be "price" ... and of course the "possibility" of finding/meeting an honest person.
