Fordomatic Tranny Cooler question

There are two coolant hoses that go into what I can only guess is some kind of transmission cooler for the Fordomatic in my '60 F100. It seems like one is shorter and goes to the block and the other goes to the water pump. In my ulitmate attempt to remove this engine and tranny, I removed the line that seemingly goes to the block at this cooler and A LOT of coolant came out...

Could that have drained the block, too?

Are you sure that these are not going to the cab heater?

Yeah, I had to look at it a few times...There's two hoses coming from the heater, one goes to the passenger side of the water pump, the other goes to the intake fitting. There is a third line that is visible from under the hood that goes from a fitting on the right side of the water pump, up and over the passenger side valve cover and behind the engine. From below the truck, on the passenger side of the Ford-O, there is a box about 4" x 7" where this hose connects. There is a second fitting on that little box that feels like it goes straight to the back of the engine, but visibility is limited.

All I know is, it's my first experience with it and I kept muttering (and yelling) "...(Expletive deleted)...another one of Ford's BETTER IDEAS!!"

So if automatic transmission fluid can be cooled (?) by piping it into a tank inside a hot radiator full of antifreeze then I guess automatic transmission fluid can be cooled by piping hot antifreeze back to it, …………..it has to be some kind of trans cooler.

Yeah, it still just seems like an odd design. Oh well. I was just wondering if anyone knew how much MORE coolant might be in this engine. I'm almost to 5 Gallons between the radiator and this hose.
