Hey guys, well purchased my first diesel pickup today.07 F 250 outlaw couldn't pass up the deal.Only has 20,000miles.I spent a good couple of hours going over it today.Really clean no leaks looks well maintained.Anyways you guys insists on regular service which is always #1 on my list.I run Amsoil synthetic in my Peterbilt 15w40 which is 12tbn oil can i run in this engine,or should i be opting for 5w40 oil??What filters on the oil and fuel??I know fleetgard and donaldson are top of the line in the trucking industry, but not sure about the ford.Anyways any tips or info would be great on helping me enjoy my new toy. Thanks guys.
Welcome to FTE and congratulations on the new ride. That oil will be fine, however, a lot of people are using 5w40 these days including myself. It's your choice as either is acceptable. Go with OEM on the oil and fuel filters. Racor makes them and they are repackaged with Fram, Motorcraft, or International's name on them. Some people go to the local International dealer and others buy them online at places like www.dieselfiltersonline.com or from Ed (www.y2kfordparts.com). In any case, you want to get to know Ed for parts. He's a site sponsor, an all around great guy, is extremely helpful, plus he gives you great prices on parts. Good luck with your truck.
IH oil filter# 1840752C91 Fuel 1843059C91 Ford fuel # FD-4604 Hope these help. I found at my local Case/Ih dealership they have the filters on hand or at another store they own. Some of the IH truck dealerships might have them. They are cheaper than ford but sometimes hard to find at the IH dealerships.
Welcome to FTE ryanr Be sure to read through the Tech Folder at the top of the forum.
Use oil that is CI4+ or CJ4 rated and keep the oil changed. Amsoil will cause injector imbalance problems if left in the engine. High pressure oil drives the injectors so a strict maintenance routine is recommended to keeping your 6.0L running trouble free.
