glow plug question
i just joined today, although ive had my 90 7.3L diesel for two years now.
so thank you in advance to all you guys.. im pretty aware of forums and how usefull they are, i am also a member of the jeepwrangler.com forum.
anyways...
i am repplacing all my glow plugs, and injector seals(o rings, fuel t's, hoses etc)
and i was wondering if there is any special thing i need to keep in mind when installing the new ones (or removing the old ones).
i.e...
do the glow plugs need to go in a certain order?
do the injectors need to be set to the computer?
do the glow plugs??
or do i just take em out, and screw in the new onnes??

one other thing... mind you its pre power stroke..
but the guy before me put a ATS turbo in it.. and i need to take the turbo off to get to all the plugs and injectors..
is there any special thing for the turbo too??
thanks again
There is no computer!
Are you replacing the Injectors??
There is no computer!
Like changing spark plugs without the firing order concern.
A Injector Return Line Replacement thread.
However I don't believe you need to remove the Turbo just to do Glow Plugs and Return Lines, Injectors themselves possibly.

just the o rings on the injectors.
and i do need somehow to get the turbo off to get to the last two plugs on the left side.
it is a ats turbo torque pro 2000
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.
I use a pair of bent nose needle nose pliers to remove the glow plug connectors for the glow plugs under the turbo.
1/4" drive deep socket with a universal and long extension will get the on in front of the turbo.
The one under the turbo, I use an open end wrench.
Real pain, but it can be changed.
Also the bent nose pliers are how you get the glow plug out of the hole and the new one back in.
Removing and replacing the turbo is a project in itself with the engine still in the truck.
I have the 093 turbo, the model before yours.
I have never worked on an engine with the Aurora turbo installed, but it should be close to the same setup.
thanks for the info guys.
i now have all the plugs replaced (didnt have to take off turbo)
and am working on the return lines and o rings on the injectors...
should i lube the o rings????
Ford dealership parts department here in PX says not to lube at all; just roll em on..
but another thread i was reading on here the guy was saying to lube them,,
so what do i do? trust ford? or the forum?
PLEASE ADVISE
Some use vaseline, Some use regular grease, some go dry!
Personally, I do perfectly clean and dry as I do with all rubber type seals that are stationary, especially in hot areas.

I lube mine before I try to install them.
Roll the first one in the top groove, then roll the bottom one across it.
Dab of grease smeared around the O rings and a bit more smeared on the bottom of the return tee right before I install it.

I always lube the O rings also, easier install and no cracked caps.

i started it this morning (it was fairly cold actually it rained)
and i had to crank it for a while....
what do i do next? if the plugs themselves dont make a difference then what in the plug system do i check?
