AOD trans. woes
Went on a 150 kilometer trip the other day. Half way there my tranny started shifting down really hard from OD to D. It used to be fairly smooth but now it's just "wham". Same thing when I put it in gear, it's as though i were reving the engine high and then putting it into gear, which i am not doing of course. This came on suddenly. Other than that all other shift points feel normal. Things that have changed over the last few months are that I occasionally tow a boat & trailer short distances(approx 2500 lbs). It's equipped with a tranny cooler and I don't use OD to tow. The truck will achieve higher speeds and maintain them in OD when not towing. Used to struggle to maintain 100 kph before, now it goes 120+ kph on flat stretches and doesn't lose speed as much on little hills. Tranny fluid level is good and color is still red. Had tranny flushed last year. Is this a sign of iminent tranny failure?
