OK...I have a 1989 F250 4X4 Super cab long bed...seller told me it was a 460 engine but the vin decoder says a 351! How can I identify the engine? (It IS fuel injected, and has 4 bolts down tthe center of the valve covers)
The 5.0 and 5.8 motors have a 2 piece long runner intake with the dual throttle bodies mounted vertically and angled slightly towards the drivers side, while the 460 has a carb style intake with the throttle bodies mounted horizontally.
Underhood spec, sticker will say 5.8 or 7.5 litre......Hard to mistake a small block for a big block, 460 has upper intake with 2 large air intake hose running to the center of engine bay, 351w will have the hoses attaching to front of upper intake manifold, and a "5.8 litre" cast into the top of upper intake.
Well, I obviously don't know what I'm doing..but here's how I would describe the intake/throttle body: There are 2 large hoses, about 3", that come out of the air cleaner. angle across the front, drivers side of the engine and then turn straight towards the rear of the engine. They then attach to 2 "throttle valves?" at the rear center of the engine that I would describe as horizontal, but they lead into a "body?" that then turns down (vertical) and then towards the front of the engine (horizontal)
