Were you able to pass your truck's emissions test? I'm allowed 40% and got 6% opacity. However, I have a functional EGR system. How well did your trucks do?
I have heard of guys' trucks on here that burn CLEANER without the EGR system functioning.
Yes, I am one of the guy's who can testify that your Diesel will burn Cleaner without the EGR functioning. I recommend however to leave the EGR in place and plugged in for the visual part of the inspection.

When I got my truck tested, they didn't do a visual. All they did was hook up wires at the battery, then shoved a pipe up my exhaust. I'm thinking I may be able to do a cat delete without getting in trouble here.
63DH8,
I wouldnt get to crazy as removing the CAT. It would suck if they peeked underneath. Have a muffler shop make a slip on pipe that will facilitate CAT swap in/out.

Plan "B" is, when I replace my exhaust pipe to a 4 inch, cut the ends off my cat and weld on 4 ich pipes with bolt on flanges so I don't restrict back down to 3-1/2 inch at the cat.

I would hollow out the cat and re-install it, not saying to do it, but you will have less likely chance of getting busted.
