Cargo space??

Hey guys, up till now I have been a pickup man but am in the market for an Excursion. My question is if you remove the 3rd seat and fold up the 2nd, what is the measurement along the floor. In other words if I put a piece of wood or sheetrock in there how long could it be? I realize it will be mor above the seat but I need a floor measurement.

Thanks

Matt

I've fit 8' 2x laying flat across the back how you're describing without any issue. Also laid it sideways and strapped across the hitch carrier as well since it's a lot easier and don't have to remove the seats you should have no problem fitting 4x8 sheetrock etc... I've also used my Suburban to haul some 4x8 sheets and I know the Ex is much bigger ..

I had 14 and 16' crown molding ( fiberboard - not solid wood ) in it last week. The 16 fit as long as you bend it a little over the 3rd seat down towards the bottom of the hatch.

I have had 4x8' plywood in mine. Hell I had a 10' piece of PVC pipe in it, had to have the one end inbetween the front seats.

Thanks guys, now is anybody willing to actually measure for me? I need to know with the doors closed! The reason is I have a custom tool box/cabinet that I would like to know if it will fit if I need it to, It is 48 in wide, and 98 inches long and 18 inches tall

Thanx

Matt

WOW....

I would think moving that large a cabinet around would be more of a bother than anything !

As in having to take it out to USE the excursion...

Do you need 96" deep ? or could you possibly use 18"H x 48"W x say 60" deep ?

Then you could consider a 2 or 3 pc cabinet ? Easier to move and you could leave the third row seat out....

maybe even better would be to STACK the pieces behind the 2nd row....
let's see, 3 stacks of 18" will leave room at the top and then you'd have more storage ?

let me go measure for you..

I just put 96" 2X12's in the back of the X today and they come right to the doors... maybe an inch to spare.

WOW - I AM Screwed ..... trying to help out and....

went to measure it, putting the measurements in memory while walking back in,
left the rear liftgate up, and closed the garage...

Sounded funny coming down and coudn't hit the button fast enough to stop it.

Now I have a damaged - jammed garage door and certainly damaged lift gate and no way to get into my third garage without a door.... Dang - this is gonna be expensive ...

oh, your measurements are

36" behind 3rd seat, 36" from there to 2nd seat, then roughly 36" to back of front seats (depending on how far back u put the seats... but guess the console is closer than that....)

oh vei --- I'm sick of my stomach.... 1% deductible on homeowners and don't even think the auto insurance or American Home sheild will cover it.... oh boy.............

98" will fit with the doors closed. I just messured for ya.

Here's my custom tool box. I'm in the tree business and have my Excursion loaded almost to the max. I actually have the small side of the 2nd row bench up to be able to have 1 passenger back there and can flip the rest of the bench up by moving the Stihl HT131 pole saw from the bottom of my tool box to the top and setting it over the seat backs.

pucker power for sure !!!!

As the world turns update.... think it's not as bad as I thought...

called my garage door guy and he said
"WHAT the ***@@@** ?!?! - I thought sure you had a door OR Window ?? "

Nope, when we built the house, the third garage was just that.... a spare one.... but it was straight in from the driveway with no turns so I started using it since mama left before daybreak and I didn't want her squeezing in and out of the 2 car garage with the behemoth in there....

He said he'd be over tmo about 11 and see what we could do....
this was DEFINETLY a new one on him ESPECIALLY when I told him the garage was closed all the way... he said he's heard of the lifgates getting CLOSED by the garage door, but not binding like mine did

Freaked about it and couldn't wait, so got to thinking about it and since the binding when it jammed bent the top 18" panel..

knew it would have to be replaced, got the ole drill out and then the tin snips and opened a hole big enough to get a broom handle in there, released the catch to the screw drive, and pushed the liftgate down....

heard stuff hitting the floor when I did and pictured liftgate lock and handle and glass .....
but the liftgate went down and got the door opened !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the 'stuff' was just the door open sensor that tells me inside the house if the door is open and the liftgate handle was scratched just a bit !!!!

WooHOO !!!
pushed the top panel to straighten it and freed the Ex...

I swear I heard it say thank you ...... DUMMY

and looks like just the top panel of the garage door has to be replaced and painted to match !!!!! Whew !

Sorry to the OP for the hijack.... but it was really YOUR fault or I wouldn't have been out there !!!!

Just kidding -drink

Sorry about your garage door/glass but thanx for the help.

The cabinet is almost always in my pickup, the only reason it would have to go in the Excursion was if the Pickup was out of commission for a length of time. Just trying to plan ahead. We need a large SUV and would like something that can "backup" my work truck on occasion, we have a 350 dually we tow a 42 ft 5er with and a 250 I plow with and has the racks/toolboxes(i'm a carpenter)and a mazda for the wife. We often travel without the 5er and would like to carry 3kids 2 dogs, gear wife and I plus tow sometimes and do it in style so the Ex is the only logical choice, but being able to "backup"my work truck would help justify the need to my wife, can you dig it?!?!?

Sure can - and even with my mishap, the Ex IS the best family wagon ever built....
the two labs (100 lbs and 65 lbs) LOVED behind the back seat and after they got about a year old learned to not join us in the front seat

(easier trained then the kids !!!! )

Hey Scott,
wow - you are loaded for anything.... Nicest work truck at the job site I bet !!!!

ever thought of putting up a doggie cage or something between you and all those potential projectiles in the back ?
don't ask me how I know
