Sorry to hear about your misfortune, Sean, but at least you can try to take care of th deadbeat. Billy Mays is still dead... he can't take care of anything anymore, ever. I know that we spend too much time thinking about the loss of a famous personality and not enough time thinking about those brave enough to put on a uniform (any uniform) and risk their lives.

While I see your point Sean, I can't tell you the finer points of the law there. In VA though, bad checks are a civil matter and are settled in civil court. The problem with bad checks here is we have to be able to prove "intent" in order to be able to charge it criminally. And, this wasn't directed at you because I know you and your intent when you post and we are friends. It just really pisses me off when somebody goes off half-cocked / half-baked making statements like this with no visible first-hand knowledge other than citing TV shows as sources.

Believe me, when it comes to those that do a bad job and give the rest of us a bad name, I think they should be kicked out the door in a heartbeat. But, when it comes to sweeping generalizations, I can do without them. There are those of us that do a good job and contribute to our communities but too often, that is the part that goes unseen and unmentioned. Virtually the only thing that the media plays for the masses are the horror stories that make us good guys cringe just as much as the viewing public. It's typical media though....play dirt because it sells.

Yep, it does. And that's always been my gripe with it. If they made half an effort to report the good stuff as often as they do the bad, they'd get a whole lot more cooperation from the police when it comes to getting information. Oh well, we have just learned to roll with the punches to an extent knowing that the media, for the most part, is not pro-LE.

Most people complain and cry when things aren't going their way and are the first ones to scream at the tops of their lungs when they need help because the "old lady" whipped their azz. It's easy to sit back and criticize when you don't do and obviously aren't capable of doing the job.
well jhon I did have respect for police .but with time and experiance and trying desperatly to belive in law and rules...you and you kind destroyed any faith in cops ..case in point my youngest son suffered brain trama 3 weeks in a coma 3 months learning to walk and feed himself..the rcmp aressted him when he called for help for calling 911 ...8 times in 45 minets HE was being attacked his house destroyed and the ****heads(cop) left the kids and hauled him away knowing he had a disability was unable to talk when stressed ,end result 35,000 dollars damage to his home 20,000 property stolen or destroyed ,and when I was on my way to help him your *******s fine me for a ****ing seatbelt!!! my son died 6 months later unable to return to his home because of the inept *******s that pass for law inforcement...he was 25 ...i could go on but i am shur you may understand my anger and loss of respect or faith in the law enforcement of canada or your troopers..our govermend disgusts me as right now our EMT's are on strike for equality with the firemen and I belive they are worthy of a safe well paying job...remember ther is always anouther side to the story and yours might not be right.

While I am sorry for what happened to your son you can not lump all LEO's in the same catagory. Just like any profession there are always going to be the scumbags who let it go to their head that they have a badge. BUT if you were in trouble and needed help would you call 911, of course you would and they would help you even if you think they are dicks. I don't know the story behind your son but I am thinking there had to be a reason he was taken away and it wasn't just for calling 911 8x's in 45 mins.

Again I get it that you don't appreciate the police but they are willing to lay their life on the line for you if needed and that gets respect in my book.

Well I have had more than a few stand up to someone for me when I was 14 and getting the holy hell beat out of me by my real mom's boyfriend. My lovely step dad was about 6'6" and close to 300lbs and one of the scariest people I have ever met in my life when he was mad. If it wasn't for the few LEO's who would show up every time he decided to use me as a punching bad I don't know if I would be here right now.

I'm sure you can protect your family just fine like I can do mine but I would never hesitate to call for ANYTHING. There are just somethings that you might need a little help with and I feel sorry that you are so narrow minded to use the good sense you were given at birth to take advantage of it.

Again, I am so sorry for what happen to your son but to quote you "there are two sides to every story".

it is experiance ...you don't call for help when it didn't work the last 5 or 6 times..and as i said I did trust them ,but lost that trust and faith..I have one thing left to focus my grief and pain on and they are the easyest to focus on .no trust no faith ..avoid the ones that cause you pain...it is not right that i spewed this here ...I am sorry for any anger i caused ...but .I can scream at a police officer in pain and grief and he or she will listen and help ..a cop will tazer you or worse ..and I cannot find a police officer ..

I couldn't disagree with you more...I firmly believe that the BAD cops are few and far between. They have an incredibly difficult job to do...and...for the most part...they do it well...your personal experience not with standing.

My condolences on your loss...I sincerely hope you can find inner peace.
