Historical Plates limit where & how much you're able to drive you truck.
Where as, Y-O-M (year of make) plates don't.

i knew about the where but not the how much...i have been talking to people with them and they say they never get questioned about where they are going when they get pulled over. i was also told that you can exercise the car as needed. also historic plates are only $2 (yes two dollars) a year to register. also my truck is only inssured for about 5000 miles a year any way

Here is the application:

Where did you hear the $2 fee?

I don't see anything about Year of Make plates. I only see Horseless Carriage plates (prior to 1922 unless you have => 16 cylinders) or Historical Vehicle plates (older than 25 years). Both are restricted useage.

year of make plates only can be on mid 60s and older and you have to buy the plate and bring it in and have them look at it.

i got the $2 from 2 pantara owners who have the plates.

I would get them just because they are cool looking. For $2.00 how can you go wrong.
I just got a personalized plate for my HD, $41.00 now that sucked.

It is cool, but I would worry about getting stopped. For example, when you load your bed up with camping gear and head to El Mirage, it's pretty obvious that you are not going to a parade or car show.

Just how stupid do we think cops are?

I don't mind ***** things like that. If it is something I want I just buy it. Cops aren't as bad as we make them out to be. Just mind the speed limit and you should be ok. Now buy the plate already.

From the DMV site:
(f) As used in this section, a vehicle is of historic interest if it is collected, restored, maintained, and operated by a collector or hobbyist principally for purposes of exhibition and historic vehicle club activities.

So, yes... Camping in your historical vehicle would seem to be permitted as long as it is a club activity.

I think it would be cool to have the plates, but I don't want any more crap then I already get from the cops out here; Especially if I decide to make a run to the dump or pick up some lumber.

Take a few pics for us if you do get them Brady!

Yours isn't restored, and since it says "and" instead of "or", you don't meet the criteria.

Probably a hefty fine too, since you are cheating the system. They hate that.

Just my .02.....call me a killjoy.
