F-250 bogging

I've been looking online but couldnt find what the problem is...

I have a 2003 f-250 5.4 4x4 auto

I decided to degrease my motor (will never freakin do that again!) dont think it was running. everything got a little too wet.

Truck was running rough so i changed the plugs and everything seemed to be fine. About 3 weeks later it started running rough again. It bogs only while i go uphill and especially when it rains. if its raining it will stall while idling if i dont put it in neutral. it gave me a false code when it stalled once p0720 so i changed the output speed sensor which p0720 is and everything was the same. seems when it stalls it gives that code. when it is hot and dry out it runs pretty good, but i can still feel it there. it runs ok when i give it gas uphill its just when im driving slower when the rpms are at the point right before it would shift if i was to give a little more gas.

any of you guys got any advice for me? my truck is extremely maintained everything is up to date. has about 63k miles on it. thanks, john.

If it was me, I'd change the spark plug wires.

I haven't done much wrenchin since the day ( before computers got involved) but from what you've described, that's what I'd try..
Good Luck!

It does sound electrical. Fuel is always there, regardless of vehicle speed. Only other issue could be air flow sensor. Maybe you could have a bunch of water in the charcoal excess fuel canister? Just some ideas. I had a crankshaft position sensor go out on a chevy engine, sounds very similar to your description. I don't know if the 5.4 has one?

i bet teh COP's are whats giving u issues..

the new Ford mod. engines dont like getting moisture introduced to the engine bay..AT ALL...

i suggest u unplug em dry em out, and reseal teh connection with di-electric grease...

motorcraft spark plugs

i installed a K&N air filter around that time cant remember the exact date. from what i read the oil air filters like that can mess with the MAF sensor. with that and the combination of the water maybe that sensor filthy. apparently you are supposed to clean the maf sensor every six months?!? i didnt know that... headed to get some electric parts cleaner and i'll keep you guys updated. thanks again

It's pretty much a non issue with gas engines. I've been running a K&N filter for about 30,000 and it hasn't caused any issues.

You probably got your COPs wet. They do not like water, which is why it isn't recommended that you clean these engines.

maf sensor is clean... its running good today but it hasnt rained... i can tell the problem is still there tho

why would the cop's not work when it's raining out? kinda strange. when i changed the plugs i didnt notice any moisture in there. i didnt put any dielectric grease in there. were should i be putting it? top of the plug where it touches the spring inside the boot?

you can just about fill the plug boot with it and not hurt anything.
mine was doing as yours is after I put new plugs ans went skimpy on the di-electric.
Pull it back apart before you spend time and money elsewhere.

i pulled all the cop's out... cleaned them all up, blew out the holes, and vacumed out the dust... put some dielectric on the ends of the boots... looks like it's going to rain so we'll se what happens... MAF sensor or COP's i'll be clueless...

still bogging... it only bogs when it rains, while i travel uphill around 1800rpms... if i give it gas and kick up a gear it's fine. after or during rain while idling in drive it bogs occasionally, not an even bog, and sometimes stalls. if i throw it in neutral it's fine.

cleaned up the COP's w/dielectric grease
cleaned MAF sensor
changed fuel filter
changed plugs
changed air filter

anyone got an idea what sensor this could be?

when it stalls from idling in drive it gives me an engine light with p0720 (output speed sensor) which is on the tranny... changed that and had no luck.

on a nice day if i leave the hood open and take it for a rip it runs good. not sure what could be getting water in. i looked under the hood when it's wet out and cant see any water.

please help ford guru's!!!!!

Water gets down inside the plug holes. On mine it is 3 plugs on the drivers side. It comes down through the hood. I loaded up my boots where they contact the head with some acrylic house caulking I had laying around and it has been fine ever since. Find the problem holes and caulk them good. You might not see the water because it has dried and run off the engine. Look at the 3 plugs below the hood line on the drivers side first.
