I htink I may have a developing problem. My 93 351 will occassionaly start waaay too easy. Its happeed three times now. I turn the key and without even turning over it seems to start? I'm talking like before I even finish turning the key all the way. It starts instantly, is this something that I should be conserned about? No codes.
Someone told me it might mean the starter is on its way out. It is the original one but its never seemed to strain or anything. Trust me this can't be a good thing it starts so fast. I've had this truck 5 years now so I know this isn't the norm.
I'd be concerned about injector bleed down. (usually caused by an injector not fully re-seating when not energized). It's about the only thing that would complete the ignition trinity so quickly. It would produce a "rich" condition whereby there is fuel already sitting in the cylinder(s) the instant the spark plugs get juice. You might take a pressure reading on the fuel rail at hour or half-hour intervals after you drive it. System bleed down is pretty slow in most cases. The time it takes for the system to bleed off pressure could either prove or disprove this theory.
Initially, system pressure should be around 35-40 psi. (Someone correct me if I am not remembering correctly). The pressure drop should take a few hours.
This is a problem I had with a tiny 4 cylinder Toyota car I had a while back. Injector bleed down was my problem, I inherited this car, and all the injectors were replaced with used ones. lol. Everyone of them was bad. If the engine stopped in just the right place, the next time I would go to start it, it would spark at which ever cylinder it was on and most of the time start the engine, even in freezing weather. I thought it was kinda neat, the car was a stick, and if I forgot and turned the key on before I had the clutch in, oops. lol.
One of the mechanics at the dealership said that it would be an ingenious way to start engines with lower compression. I think it would put to much strain on the inner parts.
I'm gonna test that theory this afternoon. I also have another theory if that doesn't pan out. I've heard that a bad FPR will leak gas into the upper intake manifold if the diaphram has a hole in it. That might cause the the same thing. I'm ashamed to say I've never replaced it. I'll get a tothpick and check it too while im at it.
