rear view camera - can it be added?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a Lariat with most of what I want except the rear view camera. The truck has the nav system with the sony stereo system. Does anyone know if the system is prewired for the camera? Can I add it or have it added? I have found a way around my payload issues and I am looking at 150s now. I like the truck, but the wife wants the camera. Any ideas?

Thanks. I have not purchased the truck yet. I'm still mulling it over and trying once more to find one with the rear view camera. I try not to purchase this much vehicle without being sure I will not have buyer's remorse.

the backup camera is AWESOME

you can't find a new truck with it installed? or buying used?

You can buy the OEM backup camera that fits into the tailgate handle, and the screen is integrated into the rear-view mirror. runs $600-800 if you pay retail for it.

Don't know what the leads look like though...hopefully they are RCA types. I'm about to buy a touchscreen Kenwood for my Expy and I'm going to see about putting the camera outputs to that HU.

alternatively, there are quite a few FM reciver style wireless cameras that mount in a included License plate cover. They transmit to a dash unit, and I've seen alot of guys just put that into their HU. runs under $200 for that setup

I'm looking at 2009 150s on the lot and so far the ones I find that have Max tow do not seem to have a rear view camera. I have not given up. i prefer OEM.

get them to install it then. If it's the OEM you are after, they can do the install on the lot.

Just like the Factory Remote Start and the Factory Alarm

Anybody have the part numbers to order for the factory backup camera? I don't have the Nav system but would like to add the factory system where the camera shows up in the rear view mirror.

I would try and get the dealer to add it as part of the deal. you can buy the parts and do it yourself if you want to. I have the factory nav but no rear view camera. I purchased the camera and emblem from Ebay for $82 including shipping. now I need to buy or make the wiring, I just have to had time to go by my dealer to get part numbers and prices.

Here is a thread on another site about this topic.

Thanks. I'm working 2 different dealers and the other one has found a truck with everything I want. The MSRP is 45,070.00 and we are down to 36,995.00 after all discounts and rebates. I have access to "D plan" via my Brother-in-law, but I cannot get a clear answer on what this price will be. It is some variation of dealer invoice (as I understand it), but what I do not know.
