The 460 lives.

I am newly inspired, after 12 years of delays, bad decisions and unforseen events, I ran my 460 in last night and am inspired and excited about finishing my truck project, a 1981 F150 Stepside 4X4.

The 460 is a 1974 smogger that was drug out of a bottom 12 years ago and yanked out of the Country Squire Wagon that it had called home. After teardown and machine work we had a solid block and platform to start from. Throw in some flat top pistons, a comp 4x4 energy cam, edelbrock perfomer intake, a nice 4bl holley, reworked the heads and opened them up and finished it up with some L&L UltraFlow headers.

After the built motor sat for 8 years we finally fired that puppy last night. Now I know there are guys out there that have done this a hundred times and you are saying "no big deal", but for a newbie like me, a built 460 running straight headers is awesome, you couldn't slap the grin off my face. And for it it kick off so solid with no sputtering or hicups was a welcome change from everything else in my life. I know it is probably only about 250 horse with torque to spare, but standing there, feeling the power, It felt like a 600 horse motor.

I will post pictures soon.

Now all I lack is finishing.

I have a 6" suspension lift and a 3" bodylift. I decided last night to pull the bodylift off. What do you all think is the largest tire I can run with a 6" lift, I was thinking 35/12.50, anyone running larger than this on a 6" lift.

Thanks for listening, sorry for the long post.

35's will fit comfortably with 4", you could go larger with 6", but, I wouldn't suggest it with a 460 and stock axles, things will break.

I was thinking 36-15.50 Super swampers on my 15x10 wheels. Does anyone have pics of their wheel and tire combo with a 6" lift. I will also post this in the offroad forum, but i figured year specific is a better place to start.

Also, seems like I have some weak links with my SROD 4 speed, the D44 TTB axle and the stock 9"(I thought these were bomb proof). What are the typical things that are done to beef these components up.
