which tranny is better
My truck has tons of donor parts. Its an 85 chassis and 79 body with 68 429. 4x4
Here's the question...
It has the the 4 speed in it from the 85.. I believe it said Borg something on it. Would it be a good tranny for the 429 or would a 4 speed out of one of my 78/79 trucks be better?

Borg Warner 4 speeds would either be the T18, which is non-synchro in first, or the T19, all synchro. The other box would be the NP435, again, non-synchro first.

As for which one is best, you have to assess condition and ratios. Rebuild kits are not expensive if you have bearing or synchro issues in the one you want to use. In "new" condition, they are all good and strong, and in that condition, you would simply choose by ratio, or maybe PTO location if that's a deal breaker for you.
