Look at your sticker, if its the 4.6 3 valve it will say so.

I'm sure it is also advertised on the engine somewhere...valve covers??? On the engine sticker? Decal in the engine compartment?

It is posted in the engine compartment.

To the left of the engine coolant container there is a box attached to the air intake. Mine says 4.6 3 valve Triton right on it.

Sorry, you got the 2 valve if it doesn't specify.

Good engine, just not the 3 valve.

Sorry Guys! I've never claimed to be a rocket scientist! It says 2V on the window sticker! Sow what do you guys think, is it worth messing with, or just leave it alone? I was thing of at least a C.A.I. and a cat-back system.

CAI is a waste of time for this engine. Your air intake is just fine as it is. A catback may help a bit.

I thought "Triton" was the designation for "3" valve. If it has Triton on it then it is the 3-valve, right?

No, Triton is the type of engine, but both the 2 and 3 valve are Triton engines.

Okay, I figured Triton was a clever way for Ford to designate 3 valves with the "tri" usually meaning "3". Thanks for clearing that up.

Naah...Ford adopted the Triton name when they put the OHC engines in trucks and vans in 1997...this is the 4.6 and 5.4.

Ford had "Triton V8" on fender badges on a lot of those vehicles including my '02 E150. They obviously decided that they needed some kind of macho-sounding name for what was basically the Mustang/Crown Vic V8 being put into the trucks (along with the stroked 5.4 variant which had not been used in cars).

The 3 valves also have the funky looking valve covers identical to the 5.4's for a quick reference.

Triton is the name Ford gave to their modular truck engines.
